jello mold competition

last saturday, my friend ian participated in a jello mold competition held at the gowanus studio space in brooklyn. his theme was based on an old sitcom called "it's a living" about waitresses that worked at the bonaventure hotel in downtown LA. i have never even heard of that show. few have, i think. anyway, he created a piano bar scene out of jello, captured below. i duly helped in the transportation and setup. actually, i invited my parents to the event, and my mother helped by sitting in the front passenger seat holding the jello martini glass. we were careful not to be pulled over by the police.

ian's hands, "de-molding" his piano keys;
my hand carefully arranging the keys on a mirrored surface (you can see my orange sweater reflected in the glass)

the alarmingly authentic, yet unspillable, martini glass. perhaps a clever innovation for the tipsy?

"it's a living" ashtray, oversized matchbook, dirty martini, hors d'oeuvres platter, piano, mirrors

close-up of the jello hors d'oeuvres platter, deviled eggs and other mysterious jello items. complete with a sprinkling of paprika.

the jello was almond flavored. imagine that.
